The agreement foresees the possibility for all Quanta’s existing and future customers to have access both to live BPH treatments and to specific lecturing regarding BPH in this London prestigious location.

The opening ceremony involved MD Mr. Mark R. Feneley (Senior Lecturer and Consultant Urologist), Dr. Feneley’s wife, a Urogical Nurse, Dr. Paolo Salvadeo, Quanta System’s CEO, Mr. Mike Degun, Quanta’s VP Clinical Education and Business Development, Mr. Phil Evans, UK strategic partner of Quanta (GMG), and all the staff members of the UCLH Operating Theatres.
Two procedures were performed in the morning, using th new 150 W Quanta System’s Cyber TM laser develped for treatment of BPH (vaporization, coagulation and cutting).
One procedure was on a 65 years old patient with urinaryretention (one and half years of pre-catheterization) and a very large , vascular prostate (80 gr.).
The second procedure was done on a 75 years old patient with a 40 gr. prostate.
“The first case was particularly critical, and unsuitable for treatment with traditional techniques or even other lasers, including Green lasers. With vapour resection using the highest power Thulium now available in the market, we were able to perform a safe and sufficient BPH procedure on this patient to restore voiding” Dr.Mark Feneley said.
“At the end, the number of Joules delivered were 243.200 and the total laser emitting time was only 27 minutes and 29 seconds. Very precise and safe a machine, with unmatched results in terms of speed and efficacy” commented Mark.

During the first patient intervention, the Thulium frontal laser fibre encountered intra-prostatic stone, without any damage to the laser fibre and destroyed the stones.
The fibre demonstrated very robust characteristics and was not damaged at all. “Using Green lasers, the fibre tip would have been immediately, irrevocably damagd ” Dr. Feneley said.

At the end of both procedures, Dr. Feneley concluded:
"We just started using the Cyber Thulium TM 150, very successfully, here at the University College Hospital in London. We've done the first two cases, and the machine has proved exceptional performances in vaporization and cutting, and will give great advantage for all BPH treatments for the future."
In the afternoon the delegation moved into Quanta’s new International Urology Training Centre, located across the road fro the hospital, at the UCH Education Centre.
This new centre is also equipped with the most modern facilities for simulation and teaching, including a complete theatre simulator and several urological and laparoscopic simulator based training systems.

At the end of the day, Dr. Paolo Salvadeo, CEO of Quanta System SpA concluded:
“For Quanta this is a great day. I’ve personally felt a big excitation while accessing to the Olympus of the world urology. It is like for a Physics PHD doctor visiting Los Alamos or Harvard, or for an engineer visiting the MIT in Boston. I’m sure that with the UCLH management and staff this is just the first step to establish a long term relationship which will see cooperation projects which might involve in the near future also other important realities, at international level” .
