Ratok®therapy: the focused punctiform micro phototherapy of vitiligo.
The therapeutic introduction of the Ratok®derm equipment, protected by an international patent, has solved most of the problems resulting from total body UV irradiation, from combination with drugs, which sometimes cause toxic reactions following up on-going intake, and from a difficulty to control the quality and quantity of UVB rays used in traditional techniques.
The Ratok®therapy, enabled by such equipment, consists in a punctiform and focused micro-photo-irradiation with high UVB-content rays at such doses and wavelengths as to stimulate re-pigmentation of vitiligo patches.
This occurs without interfering with the normally pigmented skin and absolutely giving up the use of any supporting therapies and drugs. The Ratok®therapy has no contraindications and produces no side reactions. Unlike commonly used photo-therapies combined with photosensitizing agents, the Ratok®therapy may be performed on children: excellent to moderate results were obtained in the 100% of cases treated during a five-year study (1990-1995) on this age group.
