Acne is one of the most frequent skin disorders affecting people in the world. The main factors of acne occurrence are: increase in the sebum production, follicular keratinization, microbial colonization and inflammation.
The sebaceous secretions produced by the sebaceous glands in the follicles are necessary to lubricate the skin. Acne occurs when the pores in the skin are obstructed because the skin cells accumulate sebum much faster than they can release it.
The clogged pores become a fertile area for the development of the bacteria, (Propionibacterium acnes) which is the main cause of acne. It can occur on the face, neck, shoulders, back and chest, but eruption of acne all over the body is not unusual.
Treatment with the 400 nm IPL handpiece activates the bacterial porphyrins and leads to the formation of oxygen which causes the death of the microorganism causing acne.
When the acne is strong and aggressive, scars should be developed and visible on the affected skin.
