Endodontics is a specialist field of dentistry that deals with the tooth pulp and the tissues surrounding the root of a tooth. The pulp containing nerves, arterioles and venules as well as lymphatic tissue and fibrous tissue, can become diseased or injured, and is often unable to repair itself; in this case endodontic treatment is required.
A high percentage of adults surveyed described the root canal procedure as painful or extremely painful. Lasers are used to perform the root canal therapy in a more gentle way and act to more completely clean (debridement) the complex intracanal anatomy of infected/affected canal, which in turn can provide an increased margin of clinical success and tooth retention.
